Kayoko Kimura

Born in 1971 in Tokyo, Kayoko Kimura completed her master’s degree at the Tokyo University of the Arts. Kimura selects flowers with beautiful and compelling forms from her research at botanical gardens. She transposes these experiences through intricately drawn shapes, painting overlapping lines with a thin brush, utilizing the presence of the flowers without unnecessarily embellishing them.
The profound depth of the base layer, created by applying layers of paint, gives the work a unique texture that contrasts sharply with the detailed and vividly painted motifs. In the rise and fall of flowers’ hidden energy, she explores a new concept of the subject, incorporating universal themes such as universe, time, life, and death.
