Enrico Tealdi

Enrico Tealdi was born in 1976 in Cuneo, Italy. Though he travels widely, Enrico Tealdi remains loyal to his hometown of Cuneo in the Piedmont region, where he keeps his studio. After studying fine arts until 1998, he held his first solo exhibition in the Italian capital in 2014, titled “Golfo Mistico”.
His almost abstract landscapes undoubtedly possess a mystical dimension. Whether mirages, dreams, or visions, they portray suspended moments, poised on the edge of consciousness. “I want to spark a feeling, create an atmosphere,” the artist explains. His method of gradually erasing forms is reminiscent of Leonardo da Vinci’s work with atmospheric or aerial perspective.
Tealdi draws on images he captures on the fly or finds at flea markets, along with paintings seen in churches or small museums, reconstructing memories that are half real and half dreamed. He starts with a sketch, then layers watercolors, oils, acrylics, gouache, tempera, and sometimes pure pigments, anything to cloak his silent landscapes in mystery.
For his most recent pieces, he used recycled hemp canvases. He appreciates that they come with their own history, which he preserves by making it his own. The passage of time and signs of repair (“scars,” as he calls them) remain visible, lending his work its singular, melancholic poetry.
Several of Enrico Tealdi’s pieces have entered prestigious public collections, including the Ravenna Art Museum and the Palazzo del Quirinale in Rome.
